Lets face it, you have more people telling you the benefits of whole grains than people telling you to avoid them. You also have a lot more people drinking soda than not, more people sitting on the couch instead of exercising, and more than half the population is obese. So majority does not always provide validity. It’s not about who’s saying or doing what … its’ about fact and truth.

 THE FACTS ARE:

  • Cereal Grains are so nutritionally deficient that it is                                                                    absolutely pointless to consume them
  • Cereal Grains are inferior in every way to vegetables, fruits,                                                              and meats, which contain far more nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes                                                         to sustain life.
  • Cereal Grains can be linked to every major disease and condition our era faces.
  • Cereal Grains are the leading cause of Diabetes, Obesity, and High Cholesterol.
  • Cereal Grains, along with refined sugars and dairy, are the leading causes of day-to-day conditions such as allergies, joint pain, skin disorders, indigestion, acid reflux, and an inflamed prostate.
  • Cereal Grains were a product of the Agricultural Revolution, some 10,000 yrs ago, and made popular due to the ease to grow, store, form into many other foods, and were responsible for the creation of permanent settlements and rapid growth of many economies.
  • Cereal Grains wreak havoc on the digestive process by damaging the intestinal lining, hindering the absorption of crucial nutrients, predisposing autoimmunity, chemical sensitivity, and food allergies.
  • Cereal Grain’s damage to the intestinal lining allows incompletely digested food and unwanted chemicals to enter the system.
  • Cereal Grains promote incomplete digestion by impeding bile release, contributing to gall stones.
  • Cereal Grains compromise the Pancreas by inhibiting the release of pancreatic enzymes causing elevated insulin, systemic inflammation, and the potentiation for pancreatitis, and cancer.
  • Cereal Grains eventually contribute to Insulin Resistance in the Liver due to excessive conversion to Glucose.
  • Cereal grains expend useless time, energy, and effort to process and cook them just to make them edible.

  • Cereal Grains create Leptin Resistance, which is basically your body’s ‘I’m not hungry anymore’ mechanism.
  • Cereal Grains contain innate protective mechanisms such as Lectins giving you every indication they do not want to be eaten.
  • Whole Grains are actually worse because they contain more Lectins
  • Cereal Grain wheat contains a Lectin called WGA, which attaches to receptors in the intestinal lumen and are transported intact through the intestinal lining. Recognized as a foreign invader, the immune system mounts an attack on them as well as other ‘good’ tissues in the body.
  • Cereal Grains contain Phytates, which bind to metals such as Calcium, Zinc, Magnesium, and iron that are critical for human growth making them unavailable for absorption. Bone growth is inhibited.
  • Cereal Grains such as Wheat, Barley, and Rye contain Gluten of which up to half the population is intolerant, diagnosed Celiac or not.
  • Cereal Grains, contrary to popular dogma, are a poor source of Fiber. In fact, insoluble fiber, especially those from whole grains and the mucus they drag down your pipe, can and do cause damage their lining.
  • Cereal Grains disrupt the Omega 3 & Omega 6 ratio.
  • Cereal Grains are made ‘popular’ by large ‘counsels’ with links to government receiving large subsidies.
  • Cereal Grain farmers are subsidized by the government.
  • Cereal Grains line every aisle of every supermarket because they are cheap and have along shelf life.
  • Cereal Grains were not eaten in the Paleolithic era and shouldn’t be now.

Whew! Did you realize that cereal grains were so bad for you? How many of those have you heard before? Did your doctor tell about those at your last annual physical? This information is readily available yet seldom talked about.

Seriously, grains are yummy. I ate them, and I still like the occasional piece of carrot cake. Crunchy is fun. Hot rolls with butter are tasty. The Trix bunny, Captain Crunch, even the Quaker, (in a funky way), are cool, and a hot bowl of oatmeal brings back nice memories of cold winter mornings in Canada. But, as the saying goes: “The more you learn, the more you realize what you didn’t know.” Growing up a drug-dependent asthmatic, red rash around my mouth, with serious digestive issues, and not getting any real answers from the medical community, caused, no forced, me to start studying the human body, how it works mechanically and chemically and what it’s suppose to eat.

Although Grains are only one bad piece to the unhealthy puzzle, here’s my story of giving up the bad stuff and in what order:

  • Soda
  • Dairy
  • Refined Sugars
  • Cereal and Oatmeal
  • Rices
  • Bread and Pasta
  • Beans and Legumes

With each and every phase I noticed a significant improvement in my health, but I will tell you it took me far too long to realize what I was eating was the problem. I wasted years treating the symptoms rather than addressing the causes.

OK, enough about me and back to the facts!

What do they contain that is so bad?

  • Lectins
  • Gluten
  • Phytic Acid
  • Antinutrients
  • Insoluble Fiber

How can you live without grains?

  • It would be nice to say ‘Give them all up!’ but in a reality based spectrum (and getting told off by numerous people) I have learned that giving up just one bad food a week or month is critical for permanent success. Try crackers, then cereal, bread, etc. until you find what eliminates the cravings. See the article Eating Right
  • People are naturally resistance to change and the ‘one-step-at-a-time’ principle works more often than complete nutritional reformation.
  • Simple substitutes such as: tuna salad as a lettuce wrap, you don’t need crackers with cheese, a smoothie is much tastier and transportable than cereal, no bread to the table at restaurants, more good fats.

Self-Evident

  • Once you start cleaning up your eating habits you will notice not only how much better you feel off of grains, BUT how you do feel when you cheat a little one night. Grains are pretty quick to start their chain of misery.
